Morning Benders

Just got back in from SXSW...had a great time! So many bands to see and music all around. I wasn't able to see this band but I was standing behind the lead-singer at a show. Great song. It seemed to be everywhere when I was in Austin.

These guys are gonna be big. Thanks to Renon for the introduction...In this clip he is recording the song, Excuses and trying to recreate a "wall of sound" similar to Phil Spector's style of recording. Great song!

Spring Style

Leave it to the Italians to do it cooler than everyone else. The Ray Ban sunglasses with the lenses popped out, vintage military jacket with the blue dress shirt, white jeans, sleeves popped out with the cool leather band. Classic.

Jobim

Antonio Carlos Jobim, (1927 - 1994)

The weather is finally starting to feel like spring again, which puts me in the mood for Antonio Carlos Jobim. The sounds of nylon string guitars, samba rhythms and beautifully sung language of portuguese, for me is the soundtrack of summer. Bossa Nova (which is Portuguese for “new trend”) has a swaying feel. The rhythm is what makes the music so seductive. The perfect bridge between Jazz and latin.

Tom Jobim - Wave

Jobim always surrounded himself with remarkable singers such as Regina Elis. The classic collaboration "Aguas de Marco" is a standard for all Brazilian singers. Elis was in her top shape in 1974 when the album was recorded.

"My music owes a lot to mountains, to the sea, to beaches, to birds and, of course we can't forget, to Brazilian women who are also part of the ecology…" -Antonio Carlos Jobim

Monday Style

I can only hope to look this cool when I'm this guy's age. The beanie, scarf, Ray Bans and quilted military coat over his suit is awesome. It's the perfect blend of new and old and still keeping it modern.

New Music: Washed Out

So I'm currently visiting my sister in Raleigh, North Carolina and I wake up to snow again in early March...will it ever end? I also get a call from a friend back home in Atlanta, Georgia telling me it's snowing there too...I don't know about you but I'm ready for spring and summer! I've really been diggin' this jam called, "Feel it all Around" by Washed Out. This song and video exudes that spring/summer vibe of beaches, water and leisure...

Washed Out, is a one-man project by Artist, Ernest Greene, who is from Perry, Georgia. Greene's sound is a mix of dreamy, melodic synthesizers and guitars with dance beats making the music more about atmosphere and vibe. Greene, a graduate from the University of Georgia, honed his songwriting with friends in a rock and hip-hop band but soon broke out on his own. Greene says, “When I play with friends, it’s always about compromise, I don’t really write all that well with others.” This guy is really on the rise so check him out. Greene is also an amateur photographer which can be seen on his art blog here.
